Overview of Fine Art Week

I found it interesting to use objects to create a composition, rather than simply studying from them. It made me work in a different way from what I'm used to.

Fine Art Work

We created our own compositions by tracing around and using found objects to paint and create different effects.

I created the above composition by mostly using half a peg repeatedly printed in different colours and patterns.

Overview of 3D Week

Learnt a lot about creating effective drawings with ink and card, and how different materials can be manipulated to create unique shapes.

3D Work

Scored and cut shapes cut out of plastic on the laser cutter, shapes inspired by man-made objects such as parts from sewing machines, screws and tools

The shapes created reminded me of some of the designs from fashion week (particularly the pencil bodice design on the right)

Organic shapes and curves can be created from man-made objects

Piece of plastic curled round and cut into can create shapes similar to man-made objects

The two different objects combined can make interesting shapes or ideas for a sculpture

3D Cardboard

Bigger scale - experimenting with the 3D shapes which can be achieved using cardboard

3D Design Work

Observational drawings of mechanical and man-made objects using graphite and ink. I really enjoyed this way of working and am pleased with the results.

Ink with card was an effective and quick way of drawing. Could still get some effective tonal work without the need for much detail. The mark-making suggested detail rather than being overly precise.

Object of observation

I then attempted to create some 3D samples out of the shapes we've studied.

Overview of Fashion Week

I really enjoyed fashion week and paper modelling, and using paper to create individual and unique designs as I've never worked in that way before.

Fashion Work

Paper modelling - We created individual 3D shapes out of paper and arranged them on the mannequins to make our own unique fashion item. These are photos of my own piece in stages as it developed and changed.

Finished Piece

From this, we then made some observational drawings of the shapes we had created and used them to make more developed designs.

Junya Watanabe

Stylized Sculpture
Junya Watanabe - effective shape on the figure and use of pleats, doesn't aim to fit the figure's silhouette exactly.

Overview of Textiles Week

I enjoyed working in a different style from what I'm used to. I feel the mixed media panels worked well.

Textiles Work

Textiles - We created 3 inspiration boards made from found objects to study the shapes created, and used them to create our own composition on two strips of paper.

Also used the photocopier to see the effects of inverting the colours on one of my studies.

A monoprint study - continuous line drawing of a tap.

Final panels and compositions - made from a collaged background with thread, ink and emulsion to create a mixed media piece, inspired from all the objects we studied in the beginning.

Timorous Beasties

Timorous Beasties - Designs wallpaper and upholstery patterns. They use a mix of the past and present - modern city-themed objects mixed in with older-style prints such as damask repeated patterns.

Claire Coles

Illustrative textiles pieces by Claire Coles - uses pastel shade and stitch lines as an outline.

Overview of Photography Week

I enjoyed photography week and learned to develop photos. I found the work of photographers like Robert Doiseneau and Dorethea Lange particularly interesting to study.

Drawing with Light

This is my own drawing of a person holding a ballet pose. I'm really pleased with the result and the amount of energy created by drawing with light.
